Luis Guzman, PhD
- Lecturer, Industrial and Operational Engineering
Dr. Guzman is a lecturer for the University of Michigan College of Engineering in Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) and the Division of Integrative Systems + Design (ISD), where he has taught several courses since 2003.
His teaching and research is focused on the application of data analysis and analytics in the improvement of products and processes using advanced mathematical modeling and statistics to develop empirical and analytical models. His contributions also include the use of innovative 3D digital technology as it was started to be adopted by world-class companies. More recently, he is conducting significant research utilizing simulation and data science in a variety of scenarios with the purpose of developing better models for decision making, predictability of outcomes, and continuous process improvement.
He serves as faculty advisor in the University of Michigan Center for Healthcare, Engineering, and Patient Safety (CHEPS) in projects related to healthcare, including simulation models and continuous improvement for clinic and operational flow at various University of Michigan Health System departments including emergency medicine, cardiology, endoscopy, and the Mott Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Guzman received his B.S. from Monterrey Institute of Technology and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan.
