This module covers the social and behavioral implications of mobility, including the intersection between transportation and economic mobility, urban sprawl and segregation, and transportation equity. Topics such as accessibility and human dynamics are discussed, along with social implications for the disabled and aging. You will also learn about the societal impacts of mobility technology and innovation, including privacy, socio-economic impacts, and ownership models.


The transportation system is a foundational web of assets, people, and services that enable the rest of the economy, social life, community and civic engagement. This module offers a systems thinking approach to analyzing the transportation system, particularly around equity, economic mobility, and the socio-economic impact of mobility technologies.

  • This module contains 6-7 hours of required recorded material and an associated testing assessment.
  • The module also includes supplemental reading material to bolster your knowledge.

Successful completion of module topics, readings, and testing assessment with an 80% pass rate is required to earn a digital badge for this module.

To earn a Certificate in Foundations of Mobility, consider enrolling in our 15-week courses: Course I: Mobility Behavior & Technology and Course II: Mobility System Design, Finance & Regulation.
